Designer (lead designer if it was a team effort)

The Wrangler (also known as the JK,YJ and TJ, as explained below) is a mini SUV from Jeep, a division of DaimlerChrysler. It is a successor to the famous World War II GP vehicle by way of the 'Willy's' Jeep in the 1950s and later by the Jeep CJ series. The Wrangler YJ debuted in 1987, the TJ in 1997, and the JK in 2007.

The Wrangler is produced at Jeep's Toledo South Assembly plant in Toledo, Ohio.

* RECALL ALERT!!! Please note, this does not concern the 2dr Wrangler: Jeep recalling more than 47,000 2002-2003 Liberty because of loss of lubrication in their front ball joints due to salt and 2009 Commanders, Grand Cherokees, and Wrangler Unlimited models due to a possible reversed wiring on the driver's airbag controller which may inhibit the airbag's deployment. Unique Attributes

* 2 second generation Jeep Wranglers appeared in Jurassic Park as ranger vehicles.

* 2 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 4WDs have climbed 6646 km above sea level to the rim of the Ojos del Salado volcano in Chile-the highest altitude reached by a 4WD. It took 5 days for a team led by German adventurer Mattias Jeschke to drive from the base and the team experienced surfaces that included fissured rock cliffs, volcanic sand and glacial ice so smooth that walking up there requires spiked shoes. It even withstood "hurricane-strength" wind and temperatures of -30C. The Wranglers used Goodyear MT/R tyres.

As with most Jeep, the fuel consumption is quite High for a 4 passengers vehicule (or 2 passengers + some cargo). To get in the back seat of this vehicule can be a little hard for people not used to it, especially if these person are short. The tubular sidesteps needs to be removed when going off road to prevent damage to the body or the sidesteps. If a user intend to go offroad with his vehicule, he needs to take this into consideration before taking that option. Also, Chrysler is not selling half door or full doors kit so they need to be purchased either on the aftermarket or buy all the parts seperately.

JK Jeep Wrangler

JK 2007 will see the complete redesign of the Jeep Wrangler, in both two and four-door models. The TJ platform will be replaced by a new JK platform, becoming this time a mid-size SUV. It will become Jeep's third mid-size SUV, after theGrand Cherokee and the Commander in the lineup. This next-generation Wrangler is significantly larger than the existing model, with a 2 in (50.8 mm) longer wheelbase and 3.4 in (86.4 mm) wider track. Jeep is not the only company introducing a third mid-size SUV; Ford is introducing its Edge for 2007.

Many Wrangler enthusiasts have decried this new vehicle's larger size, claiming that it runs counter to the character of the Wrangler, and is too big to be an effective off-road vehicle. However, it should be noted that similar complaints were heard during previous redesigns. Jeep reportedly intends to cement the Wrangler's position as the marque's most-rugged vehicle as new car-based crossover SUVs take some of its on-road market share.

The JK Wrangler is expected to be offered in three versions eventually:

* A short-wheelbase 2-door

Introduced at 2006 North American International Auto Show with Chrysler group CEO, Tom LaSorda driving it up the steps and through a plate glass window, just as Robert Lutz had done at the show in 1992 with the Jeep Grand Cherokee .

* A long-wheelbase Unlimited 4-door

Introduced at the 2006 New York Auto Show buried in dirt and sprayed with a fire hose. See the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited article

* A long-wheelbase Unlimited pickup truck

A 3.8 L OHV V6 producing 205 hp (153 kW) and 240 ft·lbf (325 N·m) will be the base engine, replacing the venerable AMC Straight-6 engine. The 4.7 L PowerTech V8 and 2.8 LVM Motori turbodiesel straight-4 used in theLiberty are likely to also be offered as options in some markets. A 6-speedmanual transmission will be standard, with a 4-speedautomatic transmission offered as an option. Stability control will be a new safety feature for the Wrangler.

A traditional soft top is standard equipment. Available equipment includes a Sunrider Soft Top or new 3-piece modular hardtop. The hardtop allows the sides to be removed for an open-air feeling. Although the doors can still be removed in traditional Wrangler fashion, power windows and remote power door locks will be offered for the first time. Another first is an available navigation system.
